{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-227a.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 227A.010","heading":"Definitions for KRS  227A.010 to 227A.140.","body":"As used in KRS 227A.010 to 227A.140, unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Authorized local licensing program\" means  any city, county, urban-county\ngovernment, charter county, or consolidated local government electrician and\nelectrical contractor licensing program established by local ordinance for the\npurpose of licensing electrical workers. \"Authorized local licensing program\"\nshall include a licensing program established through a cooperative agreement\nbetween two (2) or more counties;\n(2) \"Department\" means the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction;\n(3) \"Electrical\" pertains to the installation, alteration, or repair of wires and conduits\nfor the purpose of transmitting electricity, and the installation of fixtures and\nequipment in connection therewith;\n(4) \"Electrical contractor\" means  any  licensed individual, partnership, or\ncorporation that is licensed to engage in, offers to engage in, or advertises or\nholds itself out to be qualified to engage in designing, planning, superintending,\ncontracting of, or assuming responsibility for the installation, alteration, or repair\nof any electrical system used for the purpose of furnishing heat, light, or power,\nand  employs electrical workers to engage in this practice. If the electrical\ncontractor is not a master electrician, the electrical contractor shall employ at\nleast one (1) full-time master electrician; however, no master electrician shall\nact in this capacity for more than one (1) electrical contractor;\n(5) \"Electrical system\" means  any electrical work subject to standards provided\nwithin the National Electrical Code as adopted in the Uniform State Building\nCode, as promulgated by the department;\n(6) \"Electrician\" means  any person licensed by the department who is employed\nby an electrical contractor and is engaged in the construction, alteration, or\nrepair of any electrical system used for the purpose of furnishing heat, light, or\npower;\n(7) \"Maintenance worker or maintenance engineer\" means  a person who  is a\nregular, bona fide employee or agent of a property owner, property lessor,\nproperty management  company, or firm that is not in the electrical business but\nhas jurisdiction over the property where the routine maintenance of electrical\nsystems is being performed;\n(8) \"Master electrician\" means  any individual licensed to engage in, and assume\nresponsible charge, supervision, or direction of an electrician engaged in the\nconstruction, installation, alteration, or repair of any electrical system used to\nfurnish heat, light, or power;\n(9) \"Repair\" means the reconstruction or renewal of any part of an existing building\nfor the purpose of its maintenance; and\n(10) \"Routine maintenance of electrical systems\" means  the routine and periodic\nservicing of electrical systems, including cleaning, inspecting, and making\nadjustments to ensure the proper operation and the removal or replacement of\ncomponent  parts. \"Routine maintenance of electrical systems\" does not include\nthe installation of complete electrical systems.","path":["KRS Chapter 227A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46980","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:44Z","sha256":"e59297dc122f191afbaee557d2df1b565bee5a9891cee7eaf561964f58d70834","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-227.992","next":"us-ky/krs-227a.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
