{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-227a.100","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 227A.100","heading":"Fees -- Application for renewal or reinstatement of license.","body":"(1) Each licensee licensed under the provisions of KRS 227A.010 to 227A.140 shall\nbiennially, on or before the last day of the licensee's birth month in the second year,\npay to the  department a renewal fee as established in administrative regulations\npromulgated by the department. Any license issued or renewed on or after July 15,\n2024, shall be a biennial license, and for the biennial payment, the renewal fee shall\nbe doubled to cover both years.\n(2) A sixty (60) day grace period shall be allowed after the expiration date of the\nlicense, during which time a licensee may continue to practice and may renew his\nor her license upon payment of the renewal fee plus a late renewal fee as\npromulgated by administrative regulation of the department.\n(3) A license not renewed before the end of the sixty (60) day grace period shall\nterminate based on the failure of the licensee to renew in a timely manner. Upon\ntermination, the licensee is no longer eligible to practice in the Commonwealth.\n(4) After the sixty (60) day grace period, a former licensee with a terminated license\nmay have the license reinstated upon payment of the renewal fee plus a\nreinstatement fee as promulgated by administrative regulation of the department.\nAn applicant for reinstatement after termination of the license shall not be required\nto submit to any examination as a condition for reinstatement, if the reinstatement\napplication is made within three (3) years from the date of termination.\n(5) A suspended license is subject to expiration and termination and shall be renewed\nas provided in this section. Renewal shall not entitle the licensee to engage in the\npractice until the suspension has ended or is otherwise removed by t he department\nand the right to practice is restored by the department.\n(6) A revoked license is subject to expiration or termination but may not be renewed. If\nit is reinstated, the former licensee shall pay the reinstatement fee as promulgated\nby administrative regulations under subsection (4) of this section and the renewal\nfee as promulgated by administrative regulations under subsection (1) of this\nsection.\n(7) The department shall require an applicant for renewal or reinstatement of a license\nto show e vidence of completing at least six (6) hours of continuing education per\nyear provided by the National Electrical Contractors Association, the Associated\nBuilders and Contractors, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the\nAssociated General Contractors, the International Association of Electrical\nInspectors, the Independent Electrical Contractors Association, the Kentucky\nDepartment of Housing, Buildings and Construction, or other provider of\ninstruction approved by the department. The depart ment shall promulgate\nadministrative regulations establishing the content of the programs and the\nqualifications of the providers.\n(8) The department shall require, where applicable, that an applicant for renewal or\nreinstatement of a license submit proof that the applicant has complied with\nworkers' compensation and unemployment insurance laws and regulations and has\nobtained a general liability insurance policy of not less than one million dollars\n($1,000,000).\n(9) The department may, through the promulgation of administrative regulations:\n(a) Establish an inactive license for licensees who are not actively engaging in the\nelectrical business but wish to maintain their license;\n(b) Reduce license and renewal fees for inactive licensees;\n(c) Waive the requirements established in subsection (8) of this section for\ninactive licensees; and\n(d) Establish a system to issue electronic licenses instead of physical licenses.\n(10) This section shall not apply to provisional licenses issued under KRS 227A.060.","path":["KRS Chapter 227A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55093","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:44Z","sha256":"8129ab2dcdfd6669e4c5766f747f080176f4daeb79f3902eb6b5af195449d1ee","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-227a.090","next":"us-ky/krs-227a.110"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
