{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-227a.140","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 227A.140","heading":"Effect of disassociation of licensee on electrical contractor or other","body":"business -- Interim period for use of recently deceased licensee's master\nelectrician's license.\n(1) A master electrician who ceases to be associated with the electrical contractor and is\nthe representative by which the licensed electrical contractor qualifies shall\nimmediately report his or her disassociation to the department or the authorized\nlocal licensing program. The master electrician shall be responsible for all wor k\ndone under his or her license until the department or the authorized local licensing\nprogram is notified by the master electrician that he or she is no longer associated\nwith the electrical contractor.\n(2) If the holder of any electrical license ceases to be a part of the business relying upon\nthe holder's license for its right to remain in business, the business shall employ a\nlicensed person prior to the continuance of any business activity or within thirty\n(30) days, whichever comes first.\n(3) (a) Notwithstanding subsection (2) of this section, if a master electrician dies\nwhile a business was relying on his or her license for its right to remain in\nbusiness, the department shall grant an interim time period of up to one\nhundred eighty (180) continuous calendar days to allow the business for which\nthe master electrician worked to utilize the master electrician's license to\nprocure electrical permits for that business, provided that the business:\n1. Effectuates and documents all necessary bonding and insu rance policies\nrequired by this chapter; and\n2. Ensures all bonding and insurance policies remain effective for the\nentirety of the interim time period.\n(b) A deceased master electrician's license shall be terminated by the department\nat the end of the interim period.\n(c) Upon termination of the deceased master electrician's license, an electrical\ncontractor shall have an employee with a current and valid Kentucky master\nelectrician's license in order to procure permits and perform electrical work\nunder this chapter.","path":["KRS Chapter 227A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=47502","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:45Z","sha256":"15e031437d4e0609e6b5ce7e64ce1a102305a00fc8a2147cdebc46fee05518b1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-227a.130","next":"us-ky/krs-227a.150"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
