{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-230.820","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 230.820","heading":"Participant prohibited from wagering -- Tampering with the outcome of a","body":"sporting event.\n(1) A person shall not place a sports wager on a game or event in which the person is a\nparticipant.\n(2) As used in this section, \"participant\" includes:\n(a) Players;\n(b) Coaches;\n(c) Referees, umpires, judges, or other officials involved in enforcing the rules of\nthe game;\n(d) Spouses and close family members of persons included in paragraphs (a) to\n(c) of this subsection;\n(e) Owners or shareholders of mor e than five percent (5%) interest in\nprofessional sports teams who might have influence over players and coaches\nthrough the ability to hire or fire; and\n(f) Other persons identified by the corporation as participants.\n(3) A person is guilty of tampering w ith the outcome of a sporting event when the\nperson interacts with a player, coach, referee, or other participant with the intent to\npersuade the participant to act in a way that would:\n(a) Alter the outcome of the sporting event; or\n(b) Alter actions within the sporting event upon which people might place sports\nwagers.","path":["KRS Chapter 230"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54738","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:47Z","sha256":"4b9687cf457c6cecca181220d18d4e5d3db271d3f5cb82aa87bc17f38b4e0c71","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-230.817","next":"us-ky/krs-230.823"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
