{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-235.200","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 235.200","heading":"Required equipment -- Prohibition against operation without required","body":"equipment.\n(1) Every vessel shall have aboard:\n(a) Personal floatation devices of the type and quantity as prescribed by the\nUnited States Coast Guard;\n(b) When in operation during hours of darkness, or during times of poor visibility,\nsuch lights as prescribed by administrative regulations of the department;\n(c) If carrying or using any inflammable or toxic fluid in any inclosure for any\npurpose, and if not an entirely open motorboat , an efficient natural or\nmechanical ventilation system which shall be capable of removing resulting\ngases prior to and during the time such motorboat is occupied by any person;\n(d) Such additional equipment designed to promote the safety of navigation and\nof persons as the department may find to be appropriate and for which it has\nprovided in its administrative regulations;\n(e) If such motorboat is equipped with toilet facilities, a storage container or a\ntreatment or disposal system of size and constructi on sufficient to protect and\npreserve the waters of this state from pollution. The storage container or\ntreatment or disposal system shall conform to the construction, performance,\nand utilization criteria as may be established by regulations promulgated\npursuant to this chapter;\n(f) The certificate number.\n(2) Except during an authorized race or regatta, which shall include trial runs in\npreparation for such race or regatta to be conducted at a time and place designated\nby the department, it shall be illeg al to operate any motorboat without an effective\nexhaust muffling system, or in any manner which renders the exhaust muffling\nsystem ineffective in muffling the sound of engine exhaust.\n(3) No person shall operate or give permission for the operation of a motorboat which\nis not equipped as required by this section or modification thereof or which is not\nsafe for operation as a motorboat.","path":["KRS Chapter 235"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=11065","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:49Z","sha256":"424655022d8527e1f9f16f092834e43bd1b6f777a388f0d396829d3f1d8ffad2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-235.190","next":"us-ky/krs-235.203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
