{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-235.210","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 235.210","heading":"Boats exempt from registration requirement.","body":"(1) A motorboat shall not be required to be numbered under this chapter if it is:\n(a) Already covered by a number in full force and effect which has been awarded\nto it pursuant to federal law or a federally approved numbering system of\nanother state; provided, that such boat shall not have been within this state for\na period in excess of sixty (60) consecutive days;\n(b) A motorboat from a country other than the United States temporarily using the\nwaters of this state;\n(c) A motorboat whose owner is the Unite d States, a state or a subdivision\nthereof, except when such boat is leased to the public for compensation it\nmust be registered according to KRS 235.080(2);\n(d) A ship's lifeboat used or intended to be used as such;\n(e) A motorboat belonging to a class of boats which has been exempted from\nnumbering by the department after said agency has found that the numbering\nof motorboats of such class will not materially aid in their identification; and,\nif an agency of the federal government has a numbering system  applicable to\nthe class of motorboats to which the motorboat in question belongs, after the\ndepartment has further found that the motorboat would also be exempt from\nnumbering if it were subject to the federal law.\n(2) Boats exempt from registration may be required by the department to apply for an\nofficial identification number to be displayed in accordance with KRS 235.110.","path":["KRS Chapter 235"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=11068","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:49Z","sha256":"39000c429894fca4dc85a697cc9a77405ab8df40f4754099c0a8bdb94f8fbabd","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-235.205","next":"us-ky/krs-235.220"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
