{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-247.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 247.030","heading":"Functions of experiment station.","body":"(1) The experiment station shall make field experiments in order to ascertain by\nchemical and physical examination of soils and by direct experiments in laboratory\nand fields what crops and treatment are best suited to each type of soil, whether the\npresent methods are tending to best results and to the preservation or reduction of\nfertility, what rotation and treatment will be most effective in retaining productive\ncapacities of the soils of the various sections of the state and discover and\ndemonstrate the best methods of marketing of fruits and vegetables.\n(2) It shall conduct investigations calculated to develop the beef, pork and mutton\nproducing interests of the state, and especially feeding experiments intended to\ndemonstrate the most successful combinat ion of stock foods, discovering, if\npossible, the most economical and successful methods of maintaining animals and\nfitting them for the market. It shall also conduct pathological investigations and\ninvestigate livestock conditions both at home and abroad,  in so far as they affect\nmarket values.\n(3) It shall conduct investigations for the purpose of developing the dairy interests of\nthe state and undertake feeding experiments for production of milk and butter and\nthe rearing of calves. It shall also study contagious diseases for the purpose of\nfinding remedies for those diseases.\n(4) It shall conduct investigations for the purpose of developing the horse interests of\nthe state, and study the best methods of feeding and breeding, and diseases.\n(5) It shall conduct experiments for the advancement of the poultry interests of the state\nand the economical production of poultry and eggs, including experiments in\nbreeding for egg production and methods best adapted for hatching and raising of\nchicks.\n(6) It shall bring the scientific knowledge which it obtains concerning agriculture and\nhome economics, to the farm and home by means of personal visitation,\ncorrespondence, cooperative demonstrations and experiments and the solution of\nlocal problems by station expe rts visiting the locality and studying the problems of\nthe farm and home.\n(7) It shall conduct research and investigations for the purpose of advancing the\ndevelopment of a market for the commercial production of earthworms, including\ntheir potential for use in the areas of waste disposal and land reclamation.","path":["KRS Chapter 247"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=11576","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:56Z","sha256":"19cc47265d77d240dab1b723e296e6cd42ade6ce1a2df73f0f8c4fd734d251e5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-247.025","next":"us-ky/krs-247.040"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
