{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-247.075","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 247.075","heading":"Definitions for section -- Kentucky Urban Youth Agriculture Initiative --","body":"Requirements -- Program terms -- Applications.\n(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Extension service\" includes the University of Kentucky Cooperative\nExtension Service or the  Kentucky State University Cooperative Extension\nService;\n(b) \"Initiative\" means the Kentucky Urban Youth Agriculture Initiative\nestablished in this section;\n(c) \"Program\" means any educational program that is part of the initiative; and\n(d) \"Urban county\"  means a county with a population of one hundred fifty\nthousand (150,000) or more according to the most recent federal decennial\ncensus.\n(2) There is hereby established the Kentucky Urban Youth Agriculture Initiative, which\nshall be administered by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service\nand the Kentucky State University Cooperative Extension Service and their\nindividual offices within the Commonwealth in partnership with other organizations\nas appropriate. Beginning January 1, 2027, the ex tension service shall initiate a\npilot program in one (1) or more individual offices. Beginning September 1, 2027,\nand as funding allows, the extension service may begin full implementation and\nevaluation of the pilot program in all appropriate offices thr oughout the\nCommonwealth, with potential program scaling and expansion to begin September\n1, 2028.\n(3) The initiative shall:\n(a) Promote farming, agriculture, agribusiness, and the efficient use of land in\nurban counties;\n(b) Educate program participants o n all aspects of farming, agriculture, and\nagribusiness in an urban environment and encourage the adoption of urban\nagriculture best practices;\n(c) Develop participants' skills and knowledge to become informed agriculture\nconsumers and advocates; and\n(d) Advance age -appropriate, experiential, or work -ready agricultural and\nagribusiness programming, including formal internships and apprenticeships.\n(4) The length of each program term shall be one (1) year and each term shall begin in\nSeptember on a date  specified by each extension service. Programs shall be\navailable to applicants at each extension service office located within or serving an\nurban county of the Commonwealth. An office may work with an existing state or\nlocal agricultural organization to better provide for the administration of a program\nand the initiative.\n(5) Each extension service office administering a program shall accept and review\napplications from eligible applicants. Program participation shall be at the\ndiscretion of each office and shall include as many participants as is practicable on\nan annual basis. To be eligible to participate in a program, a participant shall:\n(a) Be at least five (5) years of age and no more than eighteen (18) years of age;\n(b) Have obtained parent or guardian permission to participate in accordance with\nthe extension service's youth protection policies; and\n(c) Be available to participate in the program for the full duration of the term.","path":["KRS Chapter 247"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57112","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:52:56Z","sha256":"2bafe8146bbce6112c37e42d3f921f4c13cd4b11103711c0113763624e0a9642","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-247.070","next":"us-ky/krs-247.080"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
