{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-247.982","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 247.982","heading":"Grant program eligibility and compliance.","body":"(1) Subject to available funds, a nonprofit organization is eligible to receive a grant\nunder KRS 247.980 to 247.986 if the organization:\n(a) Has at least five (5) years of experience coordinating a statewide network of\nfood banks and charitable organizations that serve counties of this state;\n(b) Operates a program that coordinates the collection and transportation of\nsurplus agricultural commodities to a statewide network of food banks that\nprovide food to needy or low-income individuals; and\n(c) Submits to t he department, in a manner and time prescribed by the\ndepartment, a proposal for the collection and distribution of agricultural\ncommodities to food banks and other charitable organizations for use in\nproviding food for needy or low-income individuals, including:\n1. A description of the proposal;\n2. A schedule of projected costs for the proposal;\n3. Measurable goals for the proposal; and\n4. A plan for evaluating the success of the proposal.\n(2) A nonprofit organization that receives a grant under KRS 247.98 0 to 247.986 shall\ncomply with the following requirements:\n(a) Purchases shall be made from Kentucky farmers, growers, and vendors;\n(b) Agricultural commodities collected and distributed shall be culls or those\ndesignated as surplus or unmarketable, and no t primary agricultural\ncommodities. Surplus or unmarketable agricultural commodities or culls shall\nbe purchased at production cost or below market price from produce auctions,\nfarmers, growers, and vendors; and\n(c) Donations of culls or surplus or unmarke table agricultural commodities from\nfarmers' markets, cooperatives, farmers, and growers shall be encouraged.\nPersons making the donations may be reimbursed for picking, packaging,\nprocessing, transportation, storage, distribution, or other costs.","path":["KRS Chapter 247"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=11884","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:00Z","sha256":"3720bc6db6b6b9c975a3e287873a3c3be14c8ac917e34a6c9173919ac7bcbf4b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-247.981","next":"us-ky/krs-247.983"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
