{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-24a.110","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 24A.110","heading":"Criminal jurisdiction.","body":"(1) The District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction to make final disposition of all\ncriminal matters, including violations of county, urban-county, or city ordinances or\ncodes, except:\n(a) Offenses denominated by statute as felonies or capital offenses; and\n(b) Offenses punishable by death or imprisonment in the penitentiary.\n(2) The District Court has exclusive jurisdiction to make a final disposition of any\ncharge or a public offense denominated as a misdemeanor or violation, except\nwhere the charge is joined with an indictment for a felony, and all violations of\ncounty, urban-county, or city ordinances and, prior to trial, to commit the defendant\nto jail or hold him to bail or other form of pretrial release.\n(3) The District Court has, concurrent with C ircuit Court, jurisdiction to examine any\ncharge of a public offense denominated as a felony or capital offense or which may\nbe punished by death or imprisonment in the penitentiary and to commit the\ndefendant to jail or hold him to bail or other form of pretrial release.\n(4) The District Court may, upon motion and for good cause shown, reduce a charge of\na felony to a misdemeanor in accordance with the Rules of Criminal Procedure.","path":["KRS Chapter 24A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=20690","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:44Z","sha256":"d1c3d4f380a07565fa6df7e7c8b8430a72216fba3e06490153456f5c32c244bf","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-24a.100","next":"us-ky/krs-24a.120"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
