{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-257.120","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 257.120","heading":"Indemnity for destruction or slaughter of animal.","body":"(1) Indemnities shall be paid by the state or federal government for animals mandated\nto be destroyed or slaughtered on account of a reportable or United States\nDepartment of Agriculture (USDA) program disease. The indemnities shall be\nbased on fair market value as determined by the USDA or independent appraisal.\n(2) No state-funded indemnity shall be paid for any animal unless it was the property of\nthe person claiming indemnity, and was within the state, for a period of at least six\n(6) months prior to the ti me of the first test, except when animals are destroyed or\nslaughtered on account of a foreign animal or zoonotic disease.\n(3) No indemnity shall be paid for any animal:\n(a) Owned by the United States, the state or any county or city;\n(b) Brought into this state in violation of the law or any regulation of the board;\n(c) When the owner at the time of coming into possession of the animal had any\nreason to believe that it was infected; or\n(d) When the board or its authorized agents have satisfactory evidence that the\nowner has been guilty of negligence in permitting the animal to become\nexposed to the communicable disease.","path":["KRS Chapter 257"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=12354","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:06Z","sha256":"8c08cff806213a7ef6f5842b4ec35a6a350d50b6108f4ca3e50c2ccbd588eb56","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-257.115","next":"us-ky/krs-257.130"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
