{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-257.474","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 257.474","heading":"Duties and functions of council.","body":"In addition to the duties relating to equine health and welfare matters set forth in KRS\n257.472(1), the duties and functions of the council include but are not limited to:\n(1) Undertaking research, conducting public hearings, and collecting data to determ ine\nthe prevalent equine health and welfare issues;\n(2) Striving to develop regional centers of care for unwanted, abused, neglected, or\nconfiscated equines. The development of the centers may be undertaken in\ncooperation with state and local governments, private entities, universities, or other\ngroups;\n(3) Creating a system of voluntary certification of equine rescue and retirement\noperations that includes, at a minimum, industry -accepted standards of care for\nequines;\n(4) Researching and offering suggesti ons to the commission for statutory changes\naffecting equine health, welfare, abuse, and neglect issues;\n(5) Assisting veterinarians and others in maintaining the health and welfare of equines\nby identifying and referring to the appropriate authorities critical areas of need; and\n(6) Submitting a written report annually to the Governor, the Department of\nAgriculture, and the Legislative Research Commission regarding its administrative,\nfinancial, and programmatic activities.","path":["KRS Chapter 257"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=12395","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:06Z","sha256":"17ea70bc81a344f07c015c53da49352135120045c30261ab38d01edb146486bb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-257.472","next":"us-ky/krs-257.476"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
