{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-258.015","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 258.015","heading":"Dogs, cats, and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies -- Issuance and","body":"distribution of certificates -- Tags for dogs -- Requirements for compliance by\nqualified persons -- Cat and ferret owners.\n(1) Every owner shall have his or her dog, c at, or ferret initially vaccinated against\nrabies by the age of four (4) months and revaccinated at the expiration of the\nimmunization period as certified by a Kentucky -licensed veterinarian. The\nveterinarian, or a Kentucky -licensed veterinary technician i n accordance to KRS\n321.190, who vaccinates a dog, cat, or ferret shall issue to the owner a vaccination\ncertificate signed by the veterinarian or signed by both the administering veterinary\ntechnician and the supervising veterinarian on a form approved by  the Cabinet for\nHealth and Family Services. The vaccination certificate shall be prepared and\nissued in duplicate, one (1) copy to be retained by the issuing veterinarian and one\n(1) copy to be given to the owner of the dog, cat, or ferret vaccinated. Eac h\ncertificate shall bear the name and address of the veterinarian who issued it. The\nveterinarian shall also furnish each dog owner with a rabies tag bearing a serial\nnumber corresponding to the vaccination certificate with the year of immunization.\nThe tag shall be affixed to a collar or harness furnished by the owner and shall be\nworn by the dog for which the tag was issued. No one except the owner or his or\nher duly authorized agent shall remove the tag.\n(2) Every qualified person who vaccinates his or h er own dog shall comply with the\nvaccination certificate and tag requirement provisions of subsection (1) of this\nsection and the administrative regulations promulgated under KRS 258.075.\n(3) Every owner of a cat or ferret shall show proof of a valid rabie s vaccination upon\nrequest of an animal control officer or peace officer.","path":["KRS Chapter 258"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57596","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:07Z","sha256":"adf2f435636142b6455e565bef975bf891667e455fa6b16e68efb669f691653d","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-258.010","next":"us-ky/krs-258.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
