{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-258.212","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 258.212","heading":"Tampering with or removal of domesticated animal's identification","body":"prohibited -- Exceptions -- Penalty.\n(1) No person other than the owner shall tamper with or remove without permission an\nidentification tag, chip, locator, or electronic tracking devic e from a domesticated\nanimal of any age, including but not limited to a hound or dog used in the sport of\nhunting.\n(2) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to a person removing an identification\ntag, chip, locator, or electronic tracking device if the removal is:\n(a) Necessary to prevent or treat an injury to the animal;\n(b) Done by a law enforcement officer or animal control officer for a legitimate\npurpose; or\n(c) Done with the written permission of the owner of the animal.\n(3) Any person who vi olates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class A\nmisdemeanor.","path":["KRS Chapter 258"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=12456","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:07Z","sha256":"64c3938f85628f44a738b86ebcd9b1cc7f5dd744d1ce198478aa8909886d9f5e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-258.210","next":"us-ky/krs-258.215"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
