{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-259.140","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 259.140","heading":"Taker-up to pay owner value of stray equines or cattle, when -- Limitation","body":"of liability.\n(1) If cattle taken up under KRS 259.120 are sold for a profit before absolute ownership\nof the stray cattle has vested in the taker -up as provided by KRS 259.130, t hen the\ntaker-up shall pay to the owner upon demand and proof of ownership the amount\nreceived for the stray cattle less the amount owed by the owner to the taker-up under\nKRS 259.120. The owner shall not be entitled to any payment from the taker -up\nunder this section if demand for payment is made more than fifteen (15) days after\nthe posting of the stray equine and vesting of ownership pursuant to KRS 259.130\nor more than twelve (12) months after the posting of the stray cattle under KRS\n259.120.\n(2) County judges/executive or participating state agency, county clerks, and all other\nlocal government employees acting in good faith in the discharge of the duties\nimposed by KRS 259.105, 259.110, 259.120, 259.130, and this section shall be\nimmune from criminal and civil liability for any act related to the taking up and\nposting of stray equines or stray cattle.","path":["KRS Chapter 259"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=44056","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:08Z","sha256":"2a887ec102640715074b70bce73092994601a38e37b014d4096c0ab27bed52f4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-259.130","next":"us-ky/krs-259.150"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
