{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-260.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 260.030","heading":"Functions of Office of Agricultural Marketing.","body":"(1) The Office of Agricultural Marketing shall:\n(a) Promote and develop markets for Kentucky agricultural products, assist in\nsetting up farm cooperatives, and assist in coordinating feasibility studies,\nloans, grants, and funding activities for producers and cooperatives;\n(b) Gather and disseminate information concerning supply, demand, prevailing\nprices, and commercial movement, including common and cold storage of\nfood products, and maintain market news service for the purpose of\ndisseminating this information;\n(c) Foster and encourage the inspection, grading, standardizing, labeling, and\nbranding of farm products; provide standards of excellence and brands for the\nuse of producers and consumers in the marketing of Kentucky -grown\nproducts; and promote the sta ndardization of packages and containers for\nthose purposes;\n(d) Promulgate administrative regulations for the grading, packing, hauling,\nstoring, and sale of farm products if the administrative regulations are\nauthorized by statutes, and enforce those administrative regulations;\n(e) Act as mediator or arbitrator, when invited, in any issue that may arise\nbetween producers and distributors of agricultural products;\n(f) Encourage the establishment of public markets and direct dealing between\nproducer and consumer;\n(g) Promote the sale of Kentucky -grown products locally, and in domestic and\ninternational markets;\n(h) Encourage the development of a market for the commercial production of\nearthworms;\n(i) Negotiate and enter into cooperative agreements with the Un ited States\nDepartment of Agriculture or any other appropriate federal agency for carrying\nout the provisions of this section;\n(j) Develop opportunities for the diversification of Kentucky agriculture,\nincluding additional crops and enterprises for tobacco growers; and\n(k) Establish an Organic Agricultural Product Certification Program.\n(2) The functions of the office shall be supplementary to, and not in duplication of, the\neducational activities of the College of Agriculture of the University of Kentucky.\n(3) In accomplishing its purposes, the office shall not compete with business operated\nby private capital.","path":["KRS Chapter 260"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=47456","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:08Z","sha256":"36b7101a5a94a3dd0448a1d49c852cc93805e756caece6b5a19c1e5278bb75b2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-260.020","next":"us-ky/krs-260.031"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
