{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-260.031","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 260.031","heading":"Kentucky Farmers Market Nutrition Program -- Fund.","body":"(1) The Kentucky Farmers Market Nutrition Program is created within the Kentucky\nDepartment of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Cabinet for Health and Family\nServices, for the purpose of enhancing nutrition. The program's services may\ninclude the provisi on of fresh, locally grown produce to low -income citizens,\nincluding but not limited to seniors and recipients of the Special Supplemental\nNutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children provided by the federal Food\nand Nutrition Service.\n(2) The department may collaborate with the United States Department of Agriculture,\nthe University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service,\nlocal Area Agencies on Aging, community agencies, foundations, philanthropic\norganizations, farmers, and local fiscal courts to:\n(a) Identify funding sources;\n(b) Establish services and a program delivery strategy;\n(c) Market the program to citizens and farmers; and\n(d) Develop strategies to introduce fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables into\nschool food programs.\n(3) The department may promulgate administrative regulations to establish eligibility\ncriteria and implement the program established in subsection (1) of this section.\n(4) The department may accept gifts, grants, federal or state funds, or any  other public\nor private funds to develop or implement the program.\n(5) The Kentucky Farmers Market Nutrition Program fund is created in the State\nTreasury as a trust and agency account. Moneys deposited in the fund shall be\ndisbursed by the State Treasure r upon the warrant of the Commissioner of the\nKentucky Department of Agriculture. This fund shall be used solely for the purpose\nof providing nutritious food to low -income citizens.
