{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-260.166","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 260.166","heading":"Powers and duties of Kentucky Grape and Wine Council.","body":"(1) The Kentucky Grape and Wine Council, created in KRS 260.165 to promote and\nfacilitate the development of a grape, grape products, and wine industry, may:\n(a) Conduct and contract with others to conduct research on grapes, grape\nproducts, and wine in Kentuc ky and elsewhere for use in Kentucky, including\nbut not limited to:\n1. Methods of marketing, market development, and distribution;\n2. Methods of storage, refrigeration, processing, and transportation;\n3. Methods of production and product development;\n4. Methods of agronomic, enological, and viticultural practices to improve\nthese practices in Kentucky; and\n5. Economic benefits and impact from the industry;\n(b) Publish and provide and contract with others to publish and provide\nwholesalers and retailers in t he Kentucky grape, grape products, and wine\nindustry with information on proper methods of handling and selling grapes,\ngrape products, and wine;\n(c) Publish and provide and contract with others to publish and provide producers\nof Kentucky grapes, grape pr oducts, and wine, as well as the general public,\nwith information relating to Kentucky grapes, grape products, and wine; and\n(d) Design and implement or contract with others to design and implement\nactivities relating to Kentucky grapes, grape products, and wine, including but\nnot limited to:\n1. Market surveys and analyses;\n2. Industry promotion programs;\n3. Market maintenance and expansion plans;\n4. Education programs;\n5. Public relations programs;\n6. Economic impact analyses; and\n7. Other analysis or research relating to the promotion and sale of\nKentucky grapes, grape products, and wine.\n(2) The Kentucky Grape and Wine Council, to the extent that funds are available, shall:\n(a) Promote the sale of grapes, grape products, and wine for  the purpose of\nmaintaining and expanding present markets and creating new markets for\nKentucky grapes, grape products, and wine for the maximum economic\nimpact on the agricultural economy of Kentucky;\n(b) Inform the public, producers, and vendors about Ke ntucky grapes, grape\nproducts, and wine, including uses and benefits of these products;\n(c) Advise the Commissioner to:\n1. Expend moneys from the Kentucky Grape and Wine Council fund\ncreated in KRS 260.168 to carry out the duties and recommendations of\nthe council; and\n2. Hire staff to carry out the duties and recommendations of the council;\nand\n3. Promulgate administrative regulations to carry out the duties and\nrecommendations of the council;\n(d) Coordinate with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and other state\nagencies in carrying out these duties;\n(e) Report annually to the Governor and the General Assembly on the activities of\nthe Kentucky Grape and Wine Council; and\n(f) Report by November 1 of each year to the Interim Joint Committee on\nLicensing and Occupations of the Kentucky General Assembly and the\nAgricultural Development Board on the coordination between Kentucky\nwineries and Kentucky wholesalers to promote the availability of Kentucky\nwine to retailers.","path":["KRS Chapter 260"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=12556","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:08Z","sha256":"aff58e1075aea06ef9f5e0d2795a7b2d997e31bafb344dbc0a9d06b1013d9409","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-260.165","next":"us-ky/krs-260.167"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
