{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-262.240","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 262.240","heading":"Supervisors' terms -- Nomination and election -- Vacancies --","body":"Compensation -- Requirements to hold office -- Removal -- Immunity for\nofficial acts.\n(1) A supervisor's term begins on January 1 following his or her election. Supervisors\nshall b e elected for four (4) years as their terms expire. Nominating petitions for\nsupervisors shall be filed with the county clerk not later than the last date prescribed\nby the election law generally for filing certificates and petitions of nomination. No\nsuch nominating petition shall be accepted by the clerk unless it is signed by\ntwenty-five (25) or more qualified resident voters of the district. Qualified resident\nvoters may sign more than one (1) nominating petition to nominate more than one\n(1) candidate for supervisor. In the event nominating petitions for only the number\nof supervisors to be elected are filed, the commission shall declare the nominees\nelected without holding an election. The county clerk shall examine the petition of\neach candidate to determine whether it is regular on its face.  If there is an error, the\ncounty clerk shall notify the candidate by certified mail within twenty -four (24)\nhours of filing.\n(2) A supervisor shall hold office until his or her successor has been elected and has\nqualified. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment by the\ncommission.\n(3) A supervisor may be reimbursed for expenses necessarily incurred in the discharge\nof his or her duties and may be paid a per diem for attending meetings or ot herwise\ndischarging the obligations of his or her office.\n(4) A supervisor shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age, a resident of the county or\ndistrict in which he or she serves as a supervisor, and upon moving from the county\nor district, the superv isor shall be ineligible to serve as a supervisor and his or her\noffice shall be vacant.\n(5) A supervisor who has been declared elected without an election pursuant to\nsubsection (1) of this section may be removed from office by the commission in the\nsame manner as provided by KRS 65.007 for removal of an appointed member of\nthe governing body of a special district.\n(6) A supervisor serving on the board of a district shall be immune from personal\nliability in any civil or criminal action which is based upon  any official act or acts\nperformed reasonably and in good faith by the supervisor.","path":["KRS Chapter 262"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54498","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:11Z","sha256":"14987a96678f66b7bbae9428553ed39cf2eb84d047ac86d2c5b8639136c7e8b0","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-262.230","next":"us-ky/krs-262.250"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
