{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-278.600","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 278.600","heading":"Definitions for KRS  278.600 and 278.610.","body":"As used in this section and KRS 278.610, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Certify\" means  to issue a certificate of public convenience and necessity\nunder KRS 278.020;\n(2) \"High-level nuclear wastes\" means  the aqueous wastes resulting from the\noperation of the first cycle of the solvent extraction system or equivalent and\nthe concentrated wastes of the subsequent extraction cycles or equivalent in a\nfacility for reprocessing irradiated reactor fuel. High-level nuclear wastes shall\ninclude spent fuel assemblies prior to fuel reprocessing;\n(3) \"Low-level nuclear waste\" means  items that have become  contaminated with\nradioactive material or have become  radioactive through exposure to neutron\nradiation;\n(4) \"Mixed nuclear waste\" means  waste that is both radioactive and chemically\nhazardous;\n(5) \"Nuclear power facility\" or \"nuclear facility\" means  a nuclear fission thermal\npower plant;\n(6) \"Plan for storage of high-level nuclear waste\" means a method for the storage\nof high-level nuclear waste in accordance with federal laws and regulation; and\n(7) \"Storage\" means the retention of high-level nuclear waste, spent nuclear fuel,\nor transuranic waste with the intent to recover the waste or fuel for subsequent\nuse, processing, or disposal.","path":["KRS Chapter 278"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46621","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:31Z","sha256":"be4338aa4c358db4fbf1d9ee13fef638048e776436a43953bde0d8b04c3014cb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-278.580","next":"us-ky/krs-278.605"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
