{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-281.751","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 281.751","heading":"Registering trailers and semitrailers -- Exemptions.","body":"Trailers or semitrailers which are operated by carriers or motor carriers under the\njurisdiction of this department shall be registered by the owner or operator thereof\napplying to the county clerk of the county in which he resides or in which such vehicle  is\nprincipally operated, in accordance with KRS 186.655; provided, however, that the\nprovisions of this section do not apply to the following:\n(1) Trailers or semitrailers operated in interstate commerce in this state by carriers or\nmotor carriers domicil ed in a state other than this state when used in combination\nwith power units licensed in a state other than this state, said power units being\nlawfully entitled to reciprocal privileges in this state under the circumstances being\noperated; or\n(2) Trailers or semitrailers operated in interstate commerce in this state by carriers or\nmotor carriers domiciled in a state other than this state when used in combination\nwith power units licensed in a state other than this state, said power units not being\nlawfully entitled to reciprocal privileges in this state under the circumstances being\noperated if said power units are at the time properly licensed in this state or are\noperated under a lawful exemption from the requirements of licensing in this state;\nor\n(3) Trailers or semitrailers operated in interstate commerce in this state on a lawful\ninterchange basis by carriers or motor carriers domiciled in this state.","path":["KRS Chapter 281"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=14398","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:34Z","sha256":"47977bacf97654af0d23264c16fd54e33c0937315ad38d877333d9c3a5b29681","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-281.750","next":"us-ky/krs-281.752"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
