{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-281.880","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 281.880","heading":"Motor carrier safety management audit program -- Safety inspections and","body":"ratings.\n(1) (a) The Department of Kentucky State Police shall establish a motor carrier safety\nmanagement audit program applicable to private or for -hire, intrastate or\ninterstate motor carriers.\n(b) The Department of Kentucky State Police may perform safety inspections on\nvehicles operated by a motor carrier on public highways and may enter onto\nproperty owned, leased, controlled, or operated by a motor carrier to inspect\nany of its vehicles or inspect or copy records relating to vehicle safety,\nmaintenance, or financial responsibility.\n(2) The Department of Kentucky State Police may issue motor carrier safety ratings to\nany private or for -hire motor carrier which is based in Kent ucky, has a terminal in\nKentucky, or operates consistently in Kentucky. The safety rating scale and factors\ndetermining a carrier's safety rating shall be established by administrative regulation\nand shall be compatible with the scale and factors establish ed by the Federal\nHighway Administration in Title 49 of the United States Code of Federal\nRegulations, Part 385, relating to safety ratings, in effect as of July 13, 1990, or as\namended after that date.\n(3) The Department of Kentucky State Police may deter mine the safety fitness of a\nmotor carrier and may require the maintenance of or upgrade to a satisfactory safety\nrating.","path":["KRS Chapter 281"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=14449","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:34Z","sha256":"67f3197b54e2e5cf1bdfab0bce892731a5aca86b67858b89da449fdb25813879","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-281.879","next":"us-ky/krs-281.883"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
