{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-281a.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 281A.020","heading":"Purpose -- Construction.","body":"(1) It is the purpose of this chapter to implement the Federal Commercial Motor\nVehicle Safety Act of 1986 (Title XII of Pub. L. No. 99 -570) and reduce or prevent\ncommercial vehicle accidents, fatalities and injuries by:\n(a) Permitting commercial drivers to hold only one (1) license;\n(b) Disqualifying commercial drivers who have committed certain serious traffic\nviolations, or other specified offenses as herein defined; and\n(c) Strengthening commercial driver licensing and testing standards.\n(2) This chapter sh all be liberally construed to promote the public health, safety, and\nwelfare. As applied to commercial drivers, to the extent this chapter conflicts with\ngeneral driver licensing provisions this chapter prevails. If this chapter is silent,\ngeneral driver licensing provisions shall apply.\n(3) The issuance of a Class D or M license as set forth in KRS 281A.170 shall be in\naccordance with the general driver licensing statutes in KRS Chapter 186 and shall\nbe subject to the fees as set forth in KRS 186.531 in ad dition to any other fee\nrequired by statute.\n(4) Any administrative action taken pursuant to this chapter against a Class A, B, or C\nlicense shall be in addition to any administrative action taken against a Class D or\nM license imposed under any other applicable statute.","path":["KRS Chapter 281A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55040","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:53:35Z","sha256":"d0028b6184922c4845ff9a6ca3440b771836d7ad00fdc0bb322ab9be459491c3","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-281a.010","next":"us-ky/krs-281a.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
