{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-299.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 299.010","heading":"Definitions and application.","body":"(1) The provisions of this chapter do not apply to secret or fraternal societies, lodges, or\ncouncils that are under the supervision of a grand or supreme body and secure\nmembers through the lodge system exclusively, and pay no commissions and\nemploy no agents  except in the organization and supervision of the work of local\nsubordinate lodges or councils, nor do they apply to companies, societies or\nassociations organized under the authority and patronage of any church or religious\ndenomination for the exclusive  purpose of insuring the property of churches or\nreligious denominations and the personal property of the pastors and ministers\nthereof against loss or damage by fire, lightning or storm.\n(2) As used in this chapter, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(a) \"Commissioner\" means the commissioner of the Department of Insurance;\n(b) \"Policy\" means any policy, certificate of membership, or contract of\ninsurance;\n(3) \"Company,\" as used in KRS 299.020 to 299.300, means any corporation,\nassociation or society tr ansacting in this state a life or casualty insurance business,\nor both, upon the cooperative or assessment plan, as defined in KRS 299.020;\n(4) \"Company,\" as used in KRS 299.310 to 299.470, means any corporation organized\nunder KRS 299.310 and 299.320 for the purpose of transacting, and any company\nheretofore organized under any similar law of this state or under the general\ncorporation laws of this state that is transacting, the business of insurance against\nphysical loss or damage of property by such haza rd or hazards as it may provide in\nits policies, upon the cooperative or assessment plan.","path":["KRS Chapter 299"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=15817","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:26Z","sha256":"cce91dacf14358eb37c1f357759e0001e08f5ba44e0d21927abf9d2bbcc062a1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-298.990","next":"us-ky/krs-299.011"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
