{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-3.270","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 3.270","heading":"Relinquishment of legislative jurisdiction by United States -- Acceptance --","body":"Governor's duties.\n(1) Whenever the United States, in order to enable the Commonwealth and the United\nStates to exercise concurrent legislative jurisdiction for purposes of cri minal law\nenforcement, tenders to the Commonwealth a relinquishment of all or part of the\nlegislative jurisdiction theretofore acquired by it over lands within this\nCommonwealth for purposes of the establishment or extension of a unit of the\nNational Park System of the United States Department of the Interior, Kentucky\naccepts the legislative jurisdiction so relinquished.\n(2) The acceptance of such relinquishment of jurisdiction shall be indicated by a\nwriting signed by the Governor addressed to the United States Secretary of the\nInterior, or as the laws of the United States may otherwise provide, and such\nacceptance shall be effective when said writing is deposited in the United States\nmails or, if it is not mailed, when it is personally handed to the Secre tary of the\nInterior or his designee.\n(3) The Governor shall negotiate with the United States, on behalf of the General\nAssembly, the administrative details of any relinquishment of jurisdiction by the\nUnited States under the provisions of KRS 3.255 to 3.2 75.  In the event the\nGovernor is of the opinion that the relinquishment of legislative jurisdiction\ntendered by the United States exceeds that necessary to enable the Commonwealth\nand the United States to exercise concurrent legislative jurisdiction for p urposes of\ncriminal law enforcement over the lands in question, or commits the\nCommonwealth or any of its political subdivisions to expenses or obligations\nbeyond those necessarily entailed by the exercise of concurrent legislative\njurisdiction for purposes of criminal law enforcement over the lands in question, the\nGovernor shall not indicate the acceptance of such relinquishment of jurisdiction,\nand such acceptance shall not become effective until the General Assembly, at its\nnext session, shall approve same.","path":["KRS Chapter 3"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=98","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:22Z","sha256":"dac6778cbe3798b5eabe01ec4164121b0558b7e4c7031216158f541642ac7b7e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-3.265","next":"us-ky/krs-3.275"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
