{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-304.13-063","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 304.13-063","heading":"Automobile liability and physical damage insurance provision for","body":"reduction in premium charges.\n(1) Any schedule of rates or rating plan for automobile liability and physical damage\ninsurance filed with the commissioner shall provide for an appropri ate reduction in\npremium charges for a period of at least three (3) years and up to five (5) years for\nthose insureds fifty -five (55) years of age and older who successfully complete a\nmotor vehicle accident prevention course meeting standards set by the\nTransportation Cabinet or insureds of any age who complete a defensive driving\ncourse provided by the United States Armed Forces to members of the United States\nArmed Forces. The reduction in premium charges for members of the United States\nArmed Forces who  complete a defensive driving course provided by the United\nStates Armed Forces shall be actuarially sound. There shall, however, be no\nreduction in premiums for a self -instructed course or for a course which does not\nprovide for classroom or field driving  instruction for a minimum number of hours,\nto be determined by the Transportation Cabinet.\n(2) All insurance companies writing automobile liability and physical damage\ninsurance in Kentucky shall allow an appropriate reduction in premium charges to\nall eligible persons subject to this section.\n(3) Upon successfully completing the approved course, each participant shall be issued\nby the course's sponsoring agency a certificate which shall be the basis of\nqualification for the discount on insurance.\n(4) Each participant shall take an approved course each five (5) years to continue to be\neligible for the discount on insurance.\n(5) The Transportation Cabinet is hereby empowered to promulgate regulations setting\nstandards for the motor vehicle accident preventio n course described in subsection\n(1) of this section.\n(6) No discount shall be available under this section to those completing the prescribed\nmotor vehicle accident prevention course under a court order as a result of a motor\nvehicle conviction.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=17062","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:42Z","sha256":"fa48f4d5fde8db400e18b58a1efdd979e1e28e5b70c3a95d19110e9cb8c29234","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-304.13-061","next":"us-ky/krs-304.13-065"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
