{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-304.14-650","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 304.14-650","heading":"Definition for KRS 304.14-650 to 304.14-675.","body":"As used in KRS 304.14 -650 to 304.14-675, \"short-term nursing home insurance policies\"\nmeans any insurance policy or rider advertised, marketed, offered, or designed to provide\ncoverage for less than twelve (12) consecutive months for each covered person on  an\nexpense-incurred, indemnity, prepaid, or other basis for one (1) or more necessary or\nmedically necessary diagnostic, preventative, therapeutic, rehabilitative, maintenance, or\npersonal care services, provided in a setting other than an acute care unit  of a hospital\nunless the hospital or unit is licensed or certified to provide services in a skilled nursing\nfacility, extended care facility, intermediate care facility, convalescent nursing home,\npersonal care facility, home health care agency, adult day care facility, and assisted living\nfacility. This term shall also include a policy or rider that provides for payment of benefits\nbased upon cognitive impairment or loss of functional capacity. Short -term nursing home\ninsurance policies may be issued by i nsurers, fraternal benefit societies, nonprofit\nhospitals, medical-surgical, dental, and health services corporations, health maintenance\norganizations, or any similar organization to the extent they are otherwise authorized to\nissued life or health insura nce. Short -term nursing home insurance policies shall not\ninclude any insurance policy which is offered primarily to provide basic Medicare\nsupplement coverage, basic hospital expense coverage, basic medical -surgical expense\ncoverage, hospital confinement indemnity, major medical expense coverage, disability\nincome or related-asset protection coverage, accident only coverage, specified disease or\nspecified accident coverage.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=17188","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:44Z","sha256":"4296875733cdaa74e102e303ad9dabcd9b85ac8d75231c6c8e96b021baee03c9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-304.14-644","next":"us-ky/krs-304.14-655"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
