{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-304.17a-640","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 304.17A-640","heading":"Definitions for KRS 304.17A-640 et seq.","body":"For purposes of KRS 304.17A -640, 304.17A -641, 304.17A -643, 304.17A -645, and\n304.17A-647, \"emergency medical condition\" means:\n(1) A medical condition manifesting itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity,\nincluding severe pain, that a prudent laypers on would reasonably have cause to\nbelieve constitutes a condition that the absence of immediate medical attention\ncould reasonably be expected to result in:\n(a) Placing the health of the individual or, with respect to a pregnant woman, the\nhealth of the woman or her unborn child, in serious jeopardy;\n(b) Serious impairment to bodily functions; or\n(c) Serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part; or\n(2) With respect to a pregnant woman who is having contractions:\n(a) A situation in which there is inadequa te time to effect a safe transfer to\nanother hospital before delivery; or\n(b) A situation in which transfer may pose a threat to the health or safety of the\nwoman or the unborn child.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=29318","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:47Z","sha256":"b27440fb221f4c781861e0ecba96234cddf1d898f2254f21234628f68fbc069f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-304.17a-633","next":"us-ky/krs-304.17a-641"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
