{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-304.2-020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 304.2-020","heading":"Commissioner of insurance -- Appointment, term -- Divisions within","body":"department.\n(1) The commissioner is the head of the Department of Insurance.\n(2) The commissioner shall be appointed by the Governor with the consent of the\nSenate, for a term not to exceed four (4) years on the basis of his or her merit and\nfitness to perform the duties of the office as provided in KRS 12.040. If the Senate\nis not in session when a term expires or a vacancy occurs, the Governor shall make\nthe appointment t o take effect at once, subject to the approval of the Senate when\nconvened. Nothing contained in this subsection shall prohibit the commissioner of\nthe Department of Insurance from being reappointed.\n(3) The following divisions are established within the D epartment of Insurance and\nshall be headed by directors appointed by the secretary of the Public Protection\nCabinet with the approval of the Governor in accordance with KRS 12.050:\n(a) Division of Health and Life Insurance and Managed Care;\n(b) Division of Property and Casualty Insurance;\n(c) Division of Administrative Services;\n(d) Division of Financial Standards and Examination;\n(e) Division of Licensing;\n(f) Division of Insurance Fraud Investigation; and\n(g) Division of Consumer Protection.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50927","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:36Z","sha256":"3f2e79103d420ef28d76f76c1e169b3f31f93e203a2df35272ff3033ee226dc9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-304.2-015","next":"us-ky/krs-304.2-030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
