{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-304.39-110","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 304.39-110","heading":"Required minimum  tort liability insurance.","body":"(1) The requirement of security for payment of tort liabilities is fulfilled by providing:\n(a) Either:\n1. Split limits liability coverage of not less than twenty-five thousand\ndollars ($25,000) for all damages  arising out of bodily injury\nsustained by any one (1) person, and not less than fifty thousand\ndollars ($50,000) for all damages  arising out of bodily injury\nsustained by all persons injured as a result of any one (1) accident,\nplus liability coverage of not less than twenty-five thousand dollars\n($25,000) for all damages  arising out of damage  to or destruction of\nproperty, including the loss of use thereof, as a result of any one (1)\naccident arising out of ownership, maintenance, use, loading, or\nunloading, of the secured vehicle; or\n2. Single limits liability coverage of not less than sixty thousand dollars\n($60,000) for all damages  whether arising out of bodily injury or\ndamage  to property as a result of any one (1) accident arising out of\nownership, maintenance, use, loading, or unloading, of the secured\nvehicle;\n(b) That the liability coverages apply to accidents during the contract period\nin a territorial area not less than the United States of America, its\nterritories and possessions, and Canada; and\n(c) Basic reparation benefits as defined in KRS 304.39-020(2).\n(2) Subject to the provisions on approval of terms and forms, the requirement of\nsecurity for payment of tort liabilities may be met by a contract the coverage of\nwhich is secondary or excess to other applicable valid and collectible liability\ninsurance. To the extent the secondary or excess coverage applies to liability\nwithin the minimum  security required by this subtitle it must be subject to\nconditions consistent with the system of required liability insurance established\nby this subtitle.\n(3) Security for a motorcycle is fulfilled by providing only the coverages set forth in\nsubsections (1)(a) and (b) of this section.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46758","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:57Z","sha256":"64d40dbf79fe453f109f64ff3c921e9ba7bc9ef2fbac573b58986727528b1753","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-304.39-100","next":"us-ky/krs-304.39-115"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
