{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-304.9-300","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 304.9-300","heading":"Temporary license as agent -- Conditions -- Sponsor may be required.","body":"(1) The commissioner may issue a temporary license for a period not to exceed one\nhundred eighty (180) days without requiring an examination or prelicensing course\nof study if the commissioner deems that a temporary license is necessary for the\nservicing of an insurance business in the following cases:\n(a) To the surviving spouse or court -appointed personal representative of a\nlicensed agent who dies or becomes mentally or physically disabled, to allow\nadequate time for the:\n1. Sale of the insurance business owned by the agent;\n2. Recovery or return of the agent to the business; or\n3. Training and licensing of new personnel to operate the agent's business;\n(b) To a member or employee of a business entity licensed as an agent, upon the\ndeath or disability of the sole individual designated in the business entity\napplication or the license;\n(c) To the designee of a licensed agent entering upon active service in the Armed\nForces of the United States; and\n(d) In any other circumstance where the commissioner deems that  the public\ninterest will best be served by the issuance of this license.\n(2) In addition to the restrictions on temporary licenses set forth in KRS 304.9 -310, the\ncommissioner may, by order, limit the authority of any temporary licensee in any\nway deemed necessary to protect insureds and the public. The commissioner may\nrequire the temporary licensee to have a suitable sponsor who is a licensed agent or\ninsurer and who assumes responsibility for all acts of the temporary licensee, and\nmay impose other similar requirements designed to protect insureds and the public.\nThe commissioner may, by order, revoke a temporary license if the interests of\ninsureds or the public are endangered. A temporary license shall not continue after\nthe owner or the personal representative disposes of the business.\n(3) Application for a temporary license shall be filed with the commissioner in the form\nand containing the information as the commissioner may reasonably require, and be\naccompanied by the application fee as specified in KRS 304.4-010.","path":[],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=16924","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:57:40Z","sha256":"22b6e11de028a88d02c571e6e4a50e119f879b420751effadc25da1acc4e6ccb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-304.9-295","next":"us-ky/krs-304.9-310"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
