{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.083","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.083","heading":"Requirements for certification as alcohol and drug counselors.","body":"An applicant for certification as an alcohol and drug counselor shall pay the board the\ninitial fee for certification, and shall:\n(1) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;\n(2) Have obtained a baccalaureate degree, unless the applicant is certified by the board\nas an associate alcohol and drug counselor II;\n(3) Have completed the minimum work experience and supervision requirements for\nalcohol and drug counselors by the Inte rnational Certification and Reciprocity\nConsortium with supervised hours being under the direct supervision of:\n(a) A certified alcohol and drug counselor who has at least two (2) years of post -\ncertification experience and has attended the board -sponsored supervision\ntraining; or\n(b) A licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor who has at least twelve (12)\nmonths of post -licensure experience or has attended the board -sponsored\nsupervision training;\n(4) Meet all minimum supervision, education, and training  requirements of the\nInternational Certification and Reciprocity Consortium for the Alcohol and Drug\nCounselor (ADC);\n(5) Have passed a written examination for alcohol and drug counselors that has been\napproved by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium;\n(6) Have signed an agreement to abide by the standards of practice and code of ethics\napproved by the board;\n(7) Have completed at least six (6) hours of ethics training; three (3) hours of domestic\nviolence training; and two (2) hours of training in the transmission, control,\ntreatment, and prevention of the human immunodeficiency virus;\n(8) Have submitted two (2) l etters of reference from certified or licensed clinical\nalcohol and drug counselors;\n(9) Live or work at least a majority of the time in Kentucky; and\n(10) Have complied with the requirements for the training program in suicide\nassessment, treatment, and m anagement in KRS 210.366 and any administrative\nregulations promulgated thereunder.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54948","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:01Z","sha256":"ff0b6f84ae12799482c04c6fa5548bd78d39d315fd387e3ef8298e10b1a412e1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.082","next":"us-ky/krs-309.0830"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
