{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.0830","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.0830","heading":"Requirements for licensure as licensed alcohol and drug counselor.","body":"An  applicant for licensure as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor shall pay the\nboard the initial fee for licensure, and shall:\n(1) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;\n(2) Have obtained from a regionally accredited college or university, or a college or\nuniversity accredited by  an  agency  recognized by  the United States\nDepartment  of Education, a thirty (30) hour master's degree in a human\nservices field with clinical application;\n(3) Meet  all education, work experience, and supervision requirements of the\nInternational Certification and Reciprocity Consortium for the Alcohol and Drug\nCounselor, with the required supervision hours being under the direct\nsupervision of:\n(a) A licensed alcohol and drug counselor who has at least two (2) years of\npost-licensure experience and  has  attended the board-sponsored\nsupervision training; or\n(b) A  licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor who has at least twelve\n(12) months  of post-licensure experience or who  has attended the\nboard-sponsored supervision training;\n(4) Have  passed  a  written examination that has  been  approved  by  the\nInternational Certification and Reciprocity Consortium;\n(5) Have  signed an agreement to abide by the standards of practice and code of\nethics approved by the board;\n(6) Have  completed at least six (6) hours of ethics training; three (3) hours of\ndomestic violence training; and two (2) hours training in the transmission,\ncontrol, treatment, and prevention of the human  immunodeficiency virus, in\naddition to the educational requirements in subsection (2) of this section;\n(7) Have  submitted two (2) letters of reference from certified alcohol and drug\ncounselors, licensed alcohol and drug counselors, or licensed clinical alcohol\nand drug counselors;\n(8) Live or work at least a majority of the time in Kentucky; and\n(9) Have  complied with the requirements for the training program in suicide\nassessment,  treatment, and  management  in KRS  210.366  and  any\nadministrative regulations promulgated thereunder.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50747","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:01Z","sha256":"a8a49dad26da5ce1cf93fe01a4cf0d7d004c269db6dbbe55ed94d4270346ba47","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.083","next":"us-ky/krs-309.0831"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
