{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.0831","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.0831","heading":"Requirements for registration as an alcohol and drug peer support","body":"specialist.\nAn applicant for registration as an alcohol and drug peer support specialist shall pay the\nboard an initial fee for registration, and shall:\n(1) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;\n(2) Have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent;\n(3) Have completed five hundred (500) hours of board -approved experience working\nwith persons having a substance use disorder, twenty -five (25) hours of which shall\nhave been under the direct supervision of:\n(a) A certified alcohol and drug counselor who has at least two (2) years post -\ncertification experience and has attended the board -sponsored supervision\ntraining;\n(b) A licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor who has  at least twelve (12)\nmonths of post -licensure experience or has attended the board -sponsored\nsupervision training; or\n(c) Under supervision of the board, a registered alcohol and drug peer support\nspecialist who has at least two (2) years of post -registered experience and has\nattended the board-sponsored supervision training;\n(4) Have completed at least forty (40) classroom hours of board-approved curriculum;\n(5) Have passed a written examination that has been approved by the board;\n(6) Have signed an agreement to abide by the standards of practice and code of ethics\napproved by the board;\n(7) Attest to being in recovery for a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months from\na substance-related disorder;\n(8) Have completed at least sixteen (16) hours of ethics training; three (3) hours of\ndomestic violence training; two (2) hours of training in the transmission, control,\ntreatment, and prevention of the human immunodeficiency virus; ten (10) hours of\nadvocacy training; ten (10) hours of trai ning in mentoring and education; and ten\n(10) hours of training in recovery support;\n(9) Have submitted two (2) letters of reference from certified alcohol and drug\ncounselors or licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselors;\n(10) Live or work at least a majority of the time in Kentucky; and\n(11) Have complied with the requirements for the training program in suicide\nassessment, treatment, and management in KRS 210.366 and any administrative\nregulations promulgated thereunder.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54950","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:01Z","sha256":"14a26cce3baac3053dec535e5781ec33fae4c2fa8e3638e5d78ec7a41ac7cd34","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.0830","next":"us-ky/krs-309.0832"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
