{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.133","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.133","heading":"Requirements for licensure -- Licensure without examination --","body":"Reciprocity.\n(1) The board shall issue a license as a licensed professional art therapist to any person\nwho files a completed application, accompanied by the required fees, and who\nsubmits satisfactory evidence that the applicant is at least twenty -one (21) years of\nage, demonstrates professional competency by satisfactorily passing the required\nexamination, is a registered art therapist as defined by the Art Therapy Credentials\nBoard, Inc., is a board certified art therapist as defined by the Art Therapy\nCredentials Board, Inc., and has:\n(a) Received a master's degree or doctoral degree in art therapy that includes six\nhundred (600) hours of supervised internship experience from an accredited\ninstitution and has completed an additional one thousand (1,000) client\ncontact hours of postgraduate experience under appropriate supervision; or\n(b) Received a master's degree or doctoral degree in a related field, has a\nminimum of twenty-one (21) semester hours of sequential course work in the\nhistory, theory, and practice of art therapy, has completed seven hundred (700)\nhours of supervised internship experience from an accredited institution, and\nhas completed an additional two thousand (2,000) client contact hours of\npostgraduate experience under appropriate supervision.\n(2) The board may approve on a case -by-case basis applicants who have a master's\ndegree or a doctoral degree from nonaccredited institutions.\n(3) If an applicant has met all of the requirements for licensure except satisfactorily\npassing the required examinatio n, the applicant shall be scheduled to take the next\nexamination following the approval of the application.\n(4) The board may issue a license to an applicant without examination if the person\npossesses a valid regulatory document issued by the appropriate examining board\nunder the laws of any other state or territory of the United States, the District of\nColumbia, or any foreign nation that in the judgment of the board has requirements\nsubstantially equivalent to or exceeding the requirements in this section.\n(5) The board may set criteria for continuing education and supervisory experience.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30343","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:01Z","sha256":"d4ebbb180753c59888610572ad4f90855d3c5a31b0c9f0cd05e5eb36e28f6bfd","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.1315","next":"us-ky/krs-309.1335"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
