{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.312","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.312","heading":"Eligibility for license and temporary license.","body":"(1) To be eligible for licensure by the board as an interpreter, the applicant shall submit\nan application which includes:\n(a) An application fee; and\n(b) Current certification from a nationally recognized organization at the requisite\nlevel for sign language interpreters, oral interpreters, or cued speech\ntransliterators as determined by the board and promulgated by administrative\nregulation.\n(2) The board shall issue an interpreter license to an applicant who fulfills these\nrequirements. The front of the lice nse shall clearly list all certifications held by the\nlicensee.\n(3) The board may issue a temporary license as an interpreter to an applicant who is\ncertified at a level below that required for licensure in subsection (1) of this section.\nA temporary licen se shall be available for a person who is training under the\nsupervision of a licensed interpreter under circumstances defined by the board in\nadministrative regulation. A temporary license is valid for only a certain period until\nthe licensee achieves the minimum level of certification required for licensure under\nsubsection (1) of this section. A temporary license is not renewable although\nextensions may be granted under circumstances defined by administrative\nregulation.\n(a) For graduates of a baccalaure ate interpreter training program, a temporary\nlicense shall be valid for up to one (1) year.\n(b) For graduates of an associate of arts interpreter training program, a temporary\nlicense shall be valid for up to two (2) years.\n(c) For nondegree applicants, a temporary license shall be valid for up to two (2)\nyears.\n(4) Upon payment of the application fee, the board shall grant licensure to an applicant\nholding a valid license, certificate, or equivalent issued by another state if it is based\nupon standards eq uivalent to or exceeding the standards required by KRS 309.300\nto 309.319.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30357","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:02Z","sha256":"65c6afac90cff52dca416d127ea0e1825839c63bbfa51e18efb6b00b79c1f823","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.310","next":"us-ky/krs-309.314"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
