{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.353","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.353","heading":"License required to practice massage therapy or use titles, advertisements,","body":"or signs indicating massage therapy is provided.\n(1) No person shall practice massage therapy or hold himself or herself out to be a\nmassage therapist unless the person meets the educational and licensing\nrequirements of KRS 309.358 and 309.360 and holds a valid license that has not\nbeen suspended or revoked.\n(2) A licensed massage therapist may represent himself or herself as a massage\ntherapist or licensed massage therapist a nd may use the abbreviation \"L.M.T.\" as\npart of or immediately following his or her name to identify the profession.\n(3) It shall be unlawful for any person, or for any business entity, its employees, agents,\nor representatives, to practice massage or mass age therapy or to use in connection\nwith his, her, or its name or business activity the words \"massage,\" \"massage\ntherapy,\" \"massage therapist,\" \"massage practitioner,\" \"masseur,\" or \"masseuse,\" or\nthe letters \"L.M.T.,\" or any other words, letters, abbreviations, or insignia indicating\nor implying directly or indirectly that massage therapy is provided or supplied\nunless massage therapy is provided by a massage therapist licensed and practicing\nin accordance with KRS 309.350 to 309.364.\n(4) Any advertisement or sign to induce the public into believing that one is a massage\ntherapist shall be prima facie evidence of a violation of this section if the person\nmaking the advertisement or displaying the sign is not licensed to practice massage\ntherapy in accordance with KRS 309.350 to 309.364.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30365","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:02Z","sha256":"a1098270984be567d70279d49a73ccd50f064ab6636690ca955d483d4a7dc09f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.352","next":"us-ky/krs-309.3535"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
