{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-309.462","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 309.462","heading":"Certification of community health workers -- Continuing education for","body":"recertification -- College course credit.\n(1) Effective January 1, 2023, no person shall represent himself or herself as a\ncommunity health worker unless he or she is certi fied as such in accordance with\nthe provisions of KRS 309.460 to 309.464.\n(2) In order to be eligible to apply for community health worker certification, an\nindividual shall:\n(a) Be a legal United States resident;\n(b) 1. Be a resident of Kentucky; or\n2. Be employed as a community health worker in the state of Kentucky;\n(c) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age; and\n(d) 1. Complete a competency -based community health worker training and\nmentorship program offered by an organization approved by the\ndepartment to provide community health worker training and\nmentorship; or\n2. Meet requirements established by the department through the\npromulgation of administrative regulations, in accordance with KRS\nChapter 13A, for certification based on relevant and verifiab le past\ncommunity health worker related work experience.\n(3) Community health worker certifications shall be renewed annually and shall expire\non October 31 of the year following the date of certification or recertification.\n(4) In order to be eligible for  recertification, a certified community health worker shall\nannually complete continuing education, as required by the department through the\npromulgation of administrative regulations in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A,\nrelated to the core competencies of  community health work provided by an\norganization approved by the department to provide continuing education for\ncertified community health workers. Administrative regulations promulgated\npursuant to this subsection shall include requirements for continui ng education\nrelated to oral health care, infant and maternal health care, and geriatric health care.\n(5) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, an individual shall be\neligible to earn college course credit for training, mentorship, an d continuing\neducation completed pursuant to subsections (2) and (4) of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 309"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=52721","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:02Z","sha256":"64d2224527579b4ac96849e44387fb70f9785f6400d3b2db4c105e0bb93f7260","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-309.460","next":"us-ky/krs-309.464"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
