{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-31.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 31.010","heading":"Department of Public Advocacy -- Establishment -- Functions --","body":"Independent agency.\nThere is hereby established as an independent agency of state government, attached for\nadministrative purposes to the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, the D epartment of\nPublic Advocacy, in order to provide for the establishment, maintenance, and operation\nof a state-sponsored and controlled system for:\n(1) The representation of persons accused of serious crimes, as authorized under this\nchapter; and\n(2) (a) The pursuit of legal, administrative, and other appropriate remedies to ensure\nthe protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, independent of any\nagency that provides treatment, services, or rehabilitation to persons with\ndisabilities.\n(b) As used in this chapter, \"persons with disabilities\" means persons eligible for\nprotection and advocacy services under Pub. L.
