{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-310.005","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 310.005","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Board\" means the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians\nand Nutritionists;\n(2) \"Practice of dietetics or nutrition\" means the integration and application of scientific\nprinciples of food, nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, and management, and the\nbehavioral and social sciences in achieving and maintaining the health of people\nthrough the life cycle and in the treatment of disease. Methods of practice shall\ninclude, but are not limited to, nutrition assessments; development, implementation,\nmanagement, and evaluation of nutrition care plans; nutrition counseling and\neducation; and the development and administration of nutrition care standards and\nsystems;\n(3) \"Dietitian\" means a health care professional practicing dietetics and licensed\npursuant to KRS 310.021;\n(4) \"Nutritionist\" means a health care professional practicing nutrition and certified\npursuant to KRS 310.031;\n(5) \"Nutrition care services\" means:\n(a) Assessing the nutrition needs of individuals and groups, and determining\nresources and constraints in the practice setting;\n(b) Establishing priorities, goals, and objectives that meet nutrition needs that are\nconsistent with available resources and constraints;\n(c) Providing nutrition counseling in health and disease;\n(d) Developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating nutrition care systems;\nand\n(e) Developing, evaluating, altering, and maintaining appropriate standards of\nquality in food and nutrition care services;\n(6) \"Nutrition assessment\" means the evaluation of the nutrition needs of individuals\nand groups based upon appropriate biochemical, anthropocentric, physical, and\ndietary data to determine nutrient needs. \"Nutrition assessment\" includes\nrecommending appropriate nutrition intake, including enteral and parenteral\nnutrition;\n(7) \"Nutrition counseling\" means advising and assisting individuals or groups on\nappropriate nutrition intake as components of preventive, curative, and restorative\nhealth care b y integrating information about the nutrition assessment with\ninformation on food and other sources of nutrients and meal preparation consistent\nwith cultural background and socioeconomic status;\n(8) \"Licensing agency\" means the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Certification for\nDietitians and Nutritionists;\n(9) \"License,\" means a license issued by the board;\n(10) \"Certificate\" means a certificate issued by the board;\n(11) \"Licensed dietitian\" means a person licensed by the board and qualified pursuant to\nthe criteria as established in KRS 310.021;\n(12) \"Certified nutritionist\" means a person certified by the board and qualified pursuant\nto the criteria as established in KRS 310.031; and\n(13) \"Commission on Dietetic Registration\" means the commission established by the\nAmerican Dietetic Association for review and registration for registered dietitians.","path":["KRS Chapter 310"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30379","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:02Z","sha256":"7121596c189da4fd16e02f662de6666f70cf39c7c22849cdababff5c7b4295a4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-31.252","next":"us-ky/krs-310.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
