{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.271","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.271","heading":"Preliminary educational requirements for practitioners of healing arts.","body":"(1) No person shall be eligible for licensure to practice any healing art in this state\nunless and until he furnishes satisfactory evidence to the appropriate licensing\nagency, that prior to being licensed by the respective state agency that he was\ncredited with not less than sixty (60) transferable units of study by a college or\nuniversity accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools or an\naccrediting agency recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools\nor any successor t o the powers of either; provided, however, that the transferability\nof credits from colleges and universities located outside the United States and\nCanada shall be determined by the appropriate licensing agency.\n(2) (a) The term \"healing art,\" as used here in, includes the practices of medicine,\nosteopathy, dentistry, chiropody (podiatry), optometry, and chiropractic, but\ndoes not include the practices of Christian Science or midwifery or the\nprovision of certified professional midwifery services by a licens ed certified\nprofessional midwife as defined in KRS 314.400.\n(b) The term \"transferable units of study\" means semester hour (or equivalent)\ncredits and may include advance placement credits.\n(3) This section shall not apply to any student who is enrolled i n any school of\nmedicine, osteopathy, dentistry, chiropody (podiatry), optometry, or chiropractic on\nJune 13, 1968, nor shall it affect the right of any person who is presently licensed to\npractice a healing art in this state, to have his license renewed u pon compliance\nwith all other requirements of law.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48882","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:04Z","sha256":"d6d80485d09e2d1768a8f8f8efd1e39a3544951bcebac6593a5fe4ba02914f05","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.270","next":"us-ky/krs-311.275"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
