{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.601","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.601","heading":"Adoption of administrative regulations -- Continuing education","body":"requirements.\n(1) The board may adopt reasonable rules and regulations to effectuate and implement\nthe provisions of KRS 311.550 to 311.620, including but not limited to regulat ions\ndesigned to ensure the continuing professional competency of present and future\nlicensees. As an adjunct to the power conferred upon the board by this section, the\nboard may require licensees to submit to interrogation as to the nature and extent of\ntheir postgraduate medical education and to require licensees found to be deficient\nin their efforts to keep abreast of new methods and technology, to obtain additional\ninstruction and training therein.\n(2) As part of the continuing medical education which the board adopts to ensure\ncontinuing professional competency of present and future licensees, the board shall\nensure that:\n(a) Current practicing pediatricians, including those certified in medicine and\npediatrics, radiologists, family practitioners, and those physicians practicing\nin an emergency medicine or urgent care setting, demonstrate completion of a\none (1) time course of at least one (1) hour of continuing medical education\napproved by the board and covering the recognition and prevention of\npediatric abusive head trauma, as defined in KRS 620.020, prior to December\n31, 2017; and\n(b) Future practicing pediatricians, including those certified in medicine and\npediatrics, radiologists, family practitioners, and those physicians who will\npractice in an  emergency medicine or urgent care setting, demonstrate\ncompletion of a one (1) time course of at least one (1) hour of continuing\nmedical education, or its equivalent, approved by the board and covering the\nrecognition and prevention of pediatric abusive head trauma, as defined in\nKRS 620.020, within five (5) years of licensure. Future practicing\npediatricians, including those certified in medicine and pediatrics,\nradiologists, family practitioners, and those physicians who will practice in an\nemergency medicine or urgent care setting may apply pediatric abusive head\ntrauma curriculum taught in their medical school education to count towards\nthe required one (1) hour of continuing medical education.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54804","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:05Z","sha256":"8cc309bfcbf0960db570c5aa3967ed3a7783f59b852cdcccf648698bb0c089fd","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.600","next":"us-ky/krs-311.602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
