{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.690","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.690","heading":"Definitions for KRS 311.690 to 311.700.","body":"As used in KRS 311.690 to 311.700:\n(1) \"ABGC\" means the American Board of Genetic Counseling or its successor or\nequivalent;\n(2) \"ABMG\" means the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics or its\nsuccessor or equivalent;\n(3) \"ACGC\" means the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling  or its successor\nor equivalent;\n(4) \"Active candidate status\" or \"ACS\" means a status conferred upon a person who has\nmet the requirements to take the ABGC certification examination in general\ngenetics and genetic counseling and has been granted this desi gnation by the\nABGC;\n(5) \"Board\" means the State Board of Medical Licensure created in KRS 311.530;\n(6) \"CEU\" means a continuing education unit approved by the National Society of\nGenetic Counselors (NSGC);\n(7) \"Committee\" means the Kentucky Genetic Counselors Advisory Committee created\nin KRS 311.699 under the State Board of Medical Licensure;\n(8) \"Examination for licensure\" means the ABGC or ABMG certification examination;\n(9) \"Genetic counseling\" means the provision of services by a genetic counselor to:\n(a) Obtain and evaluate individual, family, and medical histories to determine\ngenetic risk for genetic or medical conditions and diseases in a patient, his or\nher offspring, and other family members;\n(b) Discuss the features, natural history, means of di agnosis, genetic and\nenvironmental factors, and management of risk for genetic or medical\nconditions and diseases;\n(c) Identify, order, and coordinate genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic\nstudies as appropriate for the genetic assessment consisten t with practice -\nbased competencies provided by ACGC;\n(d) Integrate genetic laboratory test results and other diagnostic studies with\npersonal and family medical history to assess and communicate risk factors\nfor genetic or medical conditions and diseases;\n(e) Explain the clinical implications of genetic laboratory tests and other\ndiagnostic studies and their results;\n(f) Evaluate the client's or family's responses to the condition or risk of\nrecurrence and provide client-centered counseling and anticipatory guidance;\n(g) Identify and utilize community resources that provide medical, educational,\nfinancial, and psychosocial support and advocacy; or\n(h) Provide written documentation of medical, genetic, and counseling\ninformation for families and health care professionals;\n(10) \"Genetic counseling intern\" means a student enrolled in a genetic counseling\nprogram accredited by the ACGC or ABMG;\n(11) \"Genetic counselor\" means an individual licensed by the board to engage in the\ncompetent practice of genetic counseling;\n(12) \"NSGC\" means the National Society of Genetic Counselors or its successor or\nequivalent;\n(13) \"Qualified supervisor\" means any person licensed as a genetic counselor under KRS\n311.690 to 311.700 or a licensed physician; and\n(14) \"Supervision\" means the overall responsibility of a qualified supervisor to assess the\nwork of the genetic counselor with a temporary license, including regular meetings\nand chart review, if an annual supervision contract signed by the supervisor and the\ntemporarily licensed genetic counselor is on file with both parties.
