{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.695","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.695","heading":"Who  may be licensed as genetic counselor -- Temporary license.","body":"(1) The board may issue a license as a genetic counselor to an applicant who:\n(a) Submits an application to the board on a form prescribed by the board;\n(b) Pays  a fee determined by the board in an administrative regulation\npromulgated in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A; and\n(c) Provides satisfactory evidence of possessing certification as a:\n1. Genetic counselor by the ABGC  or ABMG;  or\n2. Medical geneticist by the ABMG.\n(2) (a) The board may issue a temporary license to an applicant who:\n1. Has been granted an active candidate status by the ABGC;  and\n2. Pays a fee determined by the board in an administrative regulation\npromulgated in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A.\n(b) A person issued a temporary license under this subsection:\n1. Shall apply for and take the examination for certification within\ntwelve (12) months of the issuance of the temporary license; and\n2. May  only practice if he or she has entered into a genetic supervision\ncontract and is directly supervised by a licensed genetic counselor\nor a licensed physician.\n(c) A temporary license granted by the board shall be valid for one (1) year\nfrom the date issued and shall expire upon the earliest of the following:\n1. Issuance of a license pursuant to subsection (1) of this section;\n2. Thirty (30) days  after the holder fails to pass  the complete\ncertification examination; or\n3. The expiration date printed on the license.\n(3) (a) Whenever,  in the opinion of the executive director of the board, based\nupon verified information contained in the application, an applicant for a\nlicense to practice as a genetic counselor is eligible for licensure under\nthis section, the executive director may issue to the applicant, on behalf of\nthe board, a temporary license which shall entitle the holder to practice as\na  genetic counselor for a maximum  of one (1) year from the date of\nissuance. The temporary license shall not be renewable.\n(b) The  temporary license may be canceled by the executive director, who\nmay  cancel it at any time, without a hearing, for reasons deemed\nsufficient with appropriate consultation with the president, and who shall\ncancel it immediately upon direction by the board or upon the board's\ndenial of the holder's application for a regular license.\n(4) The  executive director shall present to the board the application for licensure\nmade  by the holder of the temporary license. If the board issues a regular\nlicense to the holder of a temporary license, the fee paid in connection with the\ntemporary license shall be applied to the regular license fee.\n(5) If the executive director cancels a temporary license, he or she shall promptly\nnotify, by United States certified mail, the holder of the temporary license at the\nlast known  address on file with the board.
