{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.697","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.697","heading":"Expiration, renewal, and reinstatement of license.","body":"(1) A license issued by the board shall expire on June 30 of even -numbered years\nunless sooner suspended or revoked.\n(2) To renew a license, an applicant shall:\n(a) Pay a renewal fee; and\n(b) Meet all other requirements for renewal under this chapter.\n(3) If a licensee fails to pay a renewal fee, the license becomes inactive without further\naction by the board.\n(4) If a person holds an inactive license, the board shall reinstate the license if the\napplicant for reinstatement:\n(a) Submits a completed renewal application;\n(b) Pays the current renewal fee;\n(c) Pays a reinstatement fee determined by the board in an administrative\nregulation promulgated in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A; and\n(d) Provides the board with a sworn statement, signed by the applicant, tha t he or\nshe has fulfilled the continuing education requirements prescribed by the\nboard for the current renewal period.\n(5) (a) Except for disciplinary actions taken pursuant to KRS 311.700, a licensee\nwhose license has been revoked may, after two (2) year s from the effective\ndate of the revocation order, petition the board for a license to again practice\nin the Commonwealth of Kentucky.\n(b) The board shall not be required to issue a new license as described in this\nsubsection. No new license shall be issue d unless the applicant satisfies the\nboard that the former licensee is presently of good moral character and\nqualified both physically and mentally to resume the practice of genetic\ncounseling without undue risk or danger to the licensee's patients or the\npublic.\n(c) If the board issues a new license under the circumstances described in this\nsubsection, the new license shall be under probation for a period of not less\nthan two (2) years nor more than five (5) years, and any subsequent violation\nduring the probationary period shall result in automatic revocation of the\nlicense.\n(6) To renew a license under this section, an applicant shall complete continuing\neducation. The continuing education shall consist of the completion in each two (2)\nyear license cycle of thirty (30) contact hours that have been approved by NSGC.\n(7) An applicant seeking renewal of a license shall certify that he or she:\n(a) Has complied with the continuing education requirements; or\n(b) Has not complied with the continuing education requirements, but is seeking a\nwaiver from the board under subsection (8) of this section.\n(8) The board may grant an applicant seeking renewal of a license a waiver fro m all or\npart of the continuing education requirement for the renewal period if the applicant\nwas not able to fulfill the requirement due to a hardship that resulted from any of\nthe following conditions:\n(a) Service in the Armed Forces of the United States  during a substantial part of\nthe renewal period;\n(b) An incapacitating illness or injury; or\n(c) Other circumstances determined by the board.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46501","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:06Z","sha256":"cd8c28647c0815a614c7c3d46ef178413656e890777f7c67e9faed57ce1d3be6","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.695","next":"us-ky/krs-311.699"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
