{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.7734","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.7734","heading":"Requirements  for physician providing abortion-inducing drug --","body":"Examination and follow-up visit.\n(1) A  qualified physician providing an abortion-inducing drug as defined in KRS\n311.7731 shall:\n(a) Be  credentialed and competent to handle complication management,\nincluding emergency transfer; or\n(b) Have  a signed contract with an associated physician who is credentialed\nto handle complications and produce that signed contract, including the\nname  and phone number of the associated physician, upon the request of\nthe cabinet and each pregnant patient.\n(2) A  qualified physician providing an abortion-inducing drug as defined in KRS\n311.7731  shall examine the patient in person and, prior to providing an\nabortion-inducing drug, shall:\n(a) Independently verify that a pregnancy exists;\n(b) Determine the patient's blood type and, if the patient is Rh negative,\nprovide the patient with an Rh negative information fact sheet and offer to\nprovide treatment with the prevailing medical standard of care to prevent\nharmful fetal or child outcomes or Rh incompatibility in future pregnancies\nat the time of the abortion;\n(c) Inform the patient that the remains of the unborn child may be visible in\nthe process of completing the abortion; and\n(d) Document,  in the patient's medical chart, the gestational age  and\nintrauterine location of the pregnancy, and whether the patient received\ntreatment for Rh negativity, as diagnosed, by the most accurate standard\nof medical care.\n(3) (a) The  qualified physician or an agent of the qualified physician providing\nany abortion-inducing drug as defined in KRS  311.7731 shall schedule a\nfollow-up visit for the patient for approximately seven (7) to fourteen (14)\ndays after administration of the abortion-inducing drug to confirm that the\npregnancy  is completely terminated and  to assess any  degree of\nbleeding.\n(b) The  qualified physician shall make  all reasonable efforts to ensure that\nthe patient returns for the scheduled appointment.\n(c) A  brief description of the efforts made  to comply with this subsection,\nincluding the date, time, and identification by name of the person making\nsuch efforts, shall be included in the patient's medical record.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=52219","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:06Z","sha256":"dcd925786287aa92e119ee2f007de68d9464108f0c382ea351295ddbe820bc6b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.7733","next":"us-ky/krs-311.7735"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
