{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.857","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.857","heading":"Podiatric supervision of a physician assistant -- Requirements --","body":"Restrictions -- Duties.\n(1) A podiatrist shall not supervise a physician assistant without approval of the board\nand the State Board of Podiatry. Failure to obtain approval as a supervising\npodiatrist or failure to comply with the requirements of KRS 311.840 to 311.862 or\nrelated administrative regulations shall be considered unprofessional conduct and\nmay result in revocation, suspension, restriction, or placing on probation th e\nsupervising podiatrist's right to supervise a physician assistant.\n(2) To be approved by the board as a supervising podiatrist, a podiatrist shall:\n(a) Be currently licensed and in good standing with the State Board of Podiatry;\n(b) Maintain a practice primarily within this Commonwealth; and\n(c) Submit a completed application and the required fee to the board. The\napplication shall include but is not limited to:\n1. A description of the nature of the podiatrist's practice;\n2. A statement of assurance by th e supervising podiatrist that the scope of\nmedical services and procedures described in the application or in any\nsupplemental information shall not exceed the normal scope of practice\nof the supervising podiatrist;\n3. A description of the means by which t he podiatrist shall maintain\ncommunication with the physician assistant when they are not in the\nsame physical location;\n4. A description of the scope of podiatric services and procedures to be\nperformed by the physician assistant for which the physician assistant\nhas been trained in an approved program; and\n5. An outline of the specific parameters for review of countersignatures.\n(3) Prior to a physician assistant performing any service or procedure beyond those\ndescribed in the initial application submitted to the board under subsection (2)(c) of\nthis section, the supervising podiatrist shall supplement that application with\ninformation that includes but is not limited to:\n(a) A description of the additional podiatric service or procedure;\n(b) A description of the physician assistant's education, training, experience, and\ninstitutional credentialing;\n(c) A description of the le vel of podiatric supervision to be provided for the\nadditional podiatric service or procedure;\n(d) The location or locations where the additional podiatric service or procedure\nwill be provided; and\n(e) Any changes to the specific parameters for review of countersignatures.\nThe initial and supplemental applications required under this section may be\nsubmitted to the board at the same time.\n(4) A podiatrist may enter into podiatric supervision agreements with no more than four\n(4) physician assistants and s hall not supervise more than four (4) physician\nassistants at any one (1) time. Application for board approval to be a supervising\npodiatrist shall be obtained individually for each physician assistant.\n(5) The board may impose restrictions on the scope of  practice of a physician assistant\nor on the methods of podiatric supervision upon consideration of recommendations\nof the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee established in KRS 311.842 after\nproviding the applicant with reasonable notice of its intende d action and after\nproviding a reasonable opportunity to be heard.\n(6) A supervising podiatrist shall be responsible for all duties of a supervising\nphysician as required under KRS 311.856 as those duties relate to the practice of\npodiatry and podiatric supervision.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57545","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:07Z","sha256":"13de0132288fa9b194ac1e733f64ad916a08051a8cb16ede990764b821948f08","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.856","next":"us-ky/krs-311.858"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
