{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.862","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.862","heading":"Practice as anesthesiology assistant.","body":"(1) A physician assistant who was practicing as an anesthesiology assistant in Kentucky\nprior to July 15, 2002, may continue to practice if the physician assistant:\n(a) Met the practice, education, training, and licensure requirements specified in\nKRS 311.844 and 311.846;\n(b) Is a graduate of an approved program accredited by the Committee on Allied\nHealth Education and Accreditation or the Commission on Accreditation of\nAllied Health Education Programs that is specifically designed to train an\nindividual to administer general or regional anesthesia; and\n(c) Is employed by a supervising physician in anesthesia.\n(2) A physician assistant who has not practiced as an anesthesiology assistant in\nKentucky prior to the July 15, 2002, shall meet the following requireme nts prior to\npracticing as an anesthesiology assistant:\n(a) Graduation from an approved four (4) year physician assistant program as\nspecified in subsection (1)(b) of this section and graduation from another two\n(2) year approved and accredited program tha t consists of academic and\nclinical training in anesthesiology;\n(b) Compliance with the practice, education, training, and licensure requirements\nspecified in KRS 311.844 and 311.846; and\n(c) Employment with a supervising physician in anesthesia.\n(3) A physician assistant practicing as an anesthesiology assistant shall not administer\nor monitor general or regional anesthesia unless the supervising physician in\nanesthesia:\n(a) Is physically present in the room during induction and emergence;\n(b) Is not concurrently performing any other anesthesiology procedure; and\n(c) Is available to provide immediate physical presence in the room.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30659","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:07Z","sha256":"210a57e808c49dbe9f043984076b5baf9892476c4eed86b1e14bda6460d9a59a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.860","next":"us-ky/krs-311.864"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
