{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.864","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.864","heading":"Definitions for KRS 311.864 to 311.890.","body":"As used in KRS 311.864 to 311.890 unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Advisory Committee for Surgical Assistants\" means the advisory committee\ncreated in KRS 311.868;\n(2) \"Board\" means the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure;\n(3) \"Delegating physician\" means a physician who is licensed by the board as either a\ndoctor of medicine, doctor of osteopathy, or doctor of podiatric medicine and who\nassumes responsibility for the services rendered by a surgical assistant;\n(4) \"Direct supervision\" means supervision by a delegating physician who is physically\npresent and who personally directs delegated acts and remains immediately\navailable to personally respond to any emergency until the patient is released from\nthe operating room or care and has been transfe rred to the care and responsibility of\nanother physician;\n(5) \"President\" means the president of the board; and\n(6) \"Surgical assisting\" means providing aid under direct supervision in exposure,\nhemostasis, closures, and other intraoperative technical func tions that assist a\nphysician in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30660","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:07Z","sha256":"8d44febe7fe8c0ec21c72214c1131ab69db26897d14a00823573b607e63026b4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.862","next":"us-ky/krs-311.866"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
