{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-311.866","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 311.866","heading":"Certification requirement -- When not required.","body":"(1) A person is not required to hold a certificate under KRS 311.864 to 311.890 if the\nperson is:\n(a) A student enrolled in a surgical assistant education program approved by the\nboard who is assisting in a surgical operation that is an integral part of the\nprogram of study;\n(b) A surgical assistant employed in the service of the federal government while\nperforming surgical assisting duties related to that employment;\n(c) A health care worker, licensed or certified within this Commonwealth, acting\nwithin the scope of the person's license;\n(d) A registered nurse or licensed practical nurse;\n(e) A certified physician assistant; or\n(f) An individual employed by a hospital who is performing the duties of a\nsurgical assistant under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.\n(2) Except as provided in subsection (1) of this section, a person shall not practice as a\nsurgical assistant unless the person is certified under KRS 311.864 to 311.890 and\nshall not use the title \"Kentucky Certified Surgical Assistant\" or any other\ndesignation that would imply that the person is a certified surgical assistant.","path":["KRS Chapter 311"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=30661","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:58:07Z","sha256":"0d98639fb64fb033db5584fb4a85accdc9b3513d5e16d6c0b14493a434b83942","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-311.864","next":"us-ky/krs-311.867"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
